Whether it's the "Attenborough Effect" shedding light on plastic use, an increasing awareness of global warming or the journey towards zero waste, nowadays we are all far more aware of the human race and its long-lasting effects on the planet. Because of this, many are starting to make changes to their lifestyle that incorporate a more sustainable way of living. They know that in order to keep the future of our planet safe, we need to make changes now. And when it comes to consumerism, shoppers are increasingly searching for buying choices that will contribute to this mission. Here at Hemming & Wills, this is a subject close to our heart. Not only do we want people to discover the pieces that will bring happiness to their home, but we want to give the opportunity to shop responsibly and sustainably too.

Sustainable furniture is not just another passing trend. It’s much more important than that. Sustainable living has been sweeping the nation these past few years, and for good reason.
It’s been a busy start to 2020 in the home interiors and furniture world! January sees many furniture and interior design fairs and trade shows – from London to Paris to Cologne to Birmingham, with many more shows throughout the year – both in the UK and abroad.
After doing a big European loop that saw us fly and train it between IMM in Cologne, Maison & Objet in Paris and The January Furniture Show in Birmingham, we’ve come back bursting with information and ideas.
For those that haven’t been to any of these fairs, we want to share some insights of both getting the most out of attending these fairs and what the highlights were for us.
At Hemming & Wills, it’s our mission to do our bit and help everyone to do their bit to reduce single use plastic waste.
Since David Attenborough showed us the horrific impact plastic, and particularly single use plastic, is having on our oceans, the ‘Blue Planet Effect’ has really taken hold in the UK and rightly so.
Whilst we’re making great strides in terms of reducing single user carrier bags (there’s been a 90% reduction since the charge was brought in for them), we all need to do much, much more right now.
