Journal 15 | How H&W has supported The Marine Conservation Society

Sustainability is one of our core values here at Hemming & Wills, and ever since we launched we wanted to make sure we could give back and do our bit to help the planet.

We want to help protect our seas and the beautiful wildlife that inhabits it, and so chose to donate part of our annual turnover contribution to The Marine Conservation Society, a UK based charity that is working hard to restore the health of our ocean and combat climate change.

MCS recently reached out to us, to tell us all the wonderful things that they have been able to do thanks to donations from their partners. We’re so pleased to support such an amazing cause, and thought you’d love to see what your purchases have helped achieve. After all, we would not be able to support this great charity without you! 

The difference supporters of MCS helped them to make in 2020-2021: 

• MCS helped 43 communities take action to look after their seas.
• Their education team delivered 365 sessions across all age groups.
• Their 26,647 volunteers donated 43,113 hours of their time.
• MCS staff and volunteers engaged with 4,816 young people online.
• On the coast their volunteers spent 35,108 hours cleaning beaches, removing a grand total of 284,451 items of litter weighing 6,253kg and leaving 608 stretches of coastline cleaner.
• Their 189 Seasearch divers spent over 10 weeks underwater, recording 2,248 habitats, 30,065 species and 787 dive sites, within 78 different marine protected areas.    
• They prompted and influenced the GlobalGap feed mill standard by highlighting areas for improvement in our Good Fish Guide rating consultation process. GlobalGap certify 2.5 million metric tonnes of farmed seafood and 70% of current global salmon production. 

How amazing! We are so proud of our contribution to The Marine Conservation Society and will continue to support this great cause in their fight for a cleaner, better protected, healthier ocean: one we can all enjoy.
