Journal 5 | Our partnership with 1% for the Planet

Chris here, Founder of Hemming & Wills.

Not long after we launched late in 2019, we partnered with 1% for the Planet. We did this for several reasons but first and foremost, it’s because we want to give back whilst also doing our bit to help protect our planet. Sustainability is a key part of our values here at H&W.

1% for the Planet is a great charitable organisation that works with many environmental non-profits and charities across the globe that support a better, cleaner, more sustainable world. This includes many great UK non-profits and charities. The key pillar of 1% for the Planet is its partners donate a minimum of 1% of annual turnover (so, importantly, not just profit) which is then distributed to chosen environmental causes.

I absolutely love the beach and getting into the sea (preferably when it’s warm and sunny!) and love our coastline, particularly in Wales. We must do all we can to protect our great marine environment and so for starters we’re donating part of our annual turnover contribution to The Marine Conservation Society.

The MCS does some fantastic work protecting and cleaning up our beaches and seas to help our marine environment and wildlife. You can read more about them here.

Over the coming months, we’ll also be announcing more partnerships with great UK environmental charities that align with our values and focus on sustainability, which runs right through the business from our Sustainable Collection of furniture, lighting, and homewares through to our approach to packaging.

We’ll share more updates on our partnership with 1% for the Planet and our focus on sustainability as soon as we can.

All the best,
